Mexico City

Mexico City, originally known as Tenochtitlán, was founded by the Mexica people in the early 14th century on an island in the middle of Lake Texcoco. It soon became the grand capital of the Aztec Empire, a city of intricate canals, temples, and bustling markets.

In 1519, Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés and his army arrived, marking the beginning of a tumultuous era. The Aztec capital fell, and Mexico City was born as the seat of Spanish colonial power in the New World.
