Killington United States
Did you know that Killington Mountain is 900 million years old? That makes it even older than the Himalayas, the Alps, and the Rocky Mountains! This amazing peak stands 4,241 feet tall in the Green Mountains of Vermont—the second-highest mountain in the entire state.
Skiers and snowboarders call Killington the "Beast of the East" because it's the biggest ski area on the eastern side of the United States. With 155 different trails spread across six mountain peaks, there's something for everyone.
Back in 1879, people built a carriage road up the mountain so visitors could reach a hotel near the summit. But Killington didn't become a ski resort until December 13, 1958, when a man named Preston Leete Smith opened it with just a few trails and lifts.
Over the years, Killington grew and grew. Today it has gondolas that carry you high into the sky, snowmaking machines that help keep the slopes ready for skiing, and even mountain biking trails for summer fun.
Whether you're riding up in a gondola to see the beautiful Green Mountain views, learning to ski for the first time, or hiking on the famous Appalachian Trail that crosses the peak, Killington offers year-round adventures for the whole family.
